G’day all,

The weather has cleared and it is time to get the fitness level up to tackle Mt Ossa, Tasmania’s highest peak. I have found a track into Mt Ossa away from the Overland Track which is a 36 klm round trip. Far better than the trip up the Overland Track which is approx a 8o klm round trip. I am planning to do the Mt Ossa trip in one day…so I need to be fit.

With all that said we are climbing Marions Peak and Cradle Mountain tommorrow. Firstly because Lovely Lynda and Orangatang Amy didn’t make the climb the first time around due to sickness and secondly it will be a good fitness test for Bushman Bud and his Mt Ossa challenge.

The weather should be nice and clear up top with a sunny day forecast. We will take off early and expect to make the climb within 7 hours. Cradle Mtn is about 75 klms from camp, roughly about an hours drive from Mole Creek, so it will be a long day.

I must say though I am looking forward to getting up close and personal with Dove Lake and Cradle Mountain again…this part of Tasmania is spectacular.

It takes about 10 mins to complete the 800m walk one way to the lookout. The lookout is on two levels and looks out on the Alum Cliffs which are part of a g0rge cut by the Mersey River. The river itself cascades over numerous rapids cutting its way through the forest below and the gateway of the Alum Cliffs. It is a beautiful lookout with brilliant scenery of river, forest and the imposing and attractive Alum Cliffs. Well worth the detour if passing through Mole Creek, so turn the car up Mersey Hill Road, put on the walking shoes and give it a go!

What a shame, we were all packed and ready to take on Black Bluff today for a day of bush walking and hiking. Last night it rained hard and we woke this morning to more rain and a white out over the mountain. Sometimes that’s the way it is…We will get there another day, hopefully tommorrow or when the rain clears. Not that we are against walking in the rain – this can be enormous fun, but when you can’t see the amazing scenery you set out to see…what is the point.

Every cloud has a silver lining! It now gives us the opportunity to get our feet wet…so to speak…and find some Tasmania 4WDing. I am checking my new maps for some areas and after lunch we will take a drive…
