Looking Back Towards Devils Elbow

Elbow last time we were there.  Today I got my chance.  The kids were keen for some more rock hopping and rock throwing??? so off we went.

We set off walking down the canyon walls to the bridge, accross the river and followed the right hand track for another 1klm to Devils Elbow.  Time for some adventure.  We crossed the converging mountain creek and headed down the left side of the canyon.  We couldn’t get across to the other side due to the river rising from a couple of days rain earlier in the week.

We climbed, clambered, jumps, used logs for bridges and made our way about 700m further down the canyon where on both sides the canyon walls are sheer cliffs and the river drops probably 30m over 3 consequitive falls.  I believe we were at a place called the waterfalls but I stand to be corrected.  Crazy people kayak through here when the river is up…awesome I would love to give it a go being a white water junky myself!

Leven Canyon just amazes me with its rugged beauty the cascading Leven River flowing gracefully through its valley floor.  Devils Elbow is special but if you walk down to the waterfall like we did you can look back and really see the fall of the canyon and the best of the snaking, falling river.  The scenery is awesome down here and I reckon it is one of the most under rated places I have come across…ssh though don’t want everyone to find out about this gem.  

If you are fit and able, this one is a must – get into it!!!
