G’day all,

We headed out to do the Crebb Track today amongst more rain overnight and off the back of a pretty wet season in the Daintree.  We were not having much luck after a mammoth 200mm fell in the Daintree just over a week ago closing the Bloomfield Track…nothing ventured, nothing gained, hey.

So off we went through the Daintree Village and beyond, past beautiful green undulating farming land and the Daintree River off in the distance on our right.  From the Daintree Village it is about 20 klms to the river crossing of the Daintree which takes you onto the Crebb Track.

10 klms to go and you come across the sign which tells you ”OPEN” or “CLOSED.”  The sign today was the same it has been all winter long – “CLOSED.”  Still we had heard of the occassional person getting through so we continued on to have a looksy.  Arriving at the river crossing of the Daintree, it became obvious to us that our trip was ending here.  The river was deep and was running fast.  No vehicles had crossed here for quite sometime and with fresh reports of croc sighting there was no way we were going to attempt a deep fast flowing river with kids in the car.

What a dissapointment, I had planned this trip for quite some time and reaaly feel a little deflated that we could not even give it a go.  There has been a lot of unseasonal rain around the Cairns region all winter long and I guess we just chose the wrong year to give it a go!!!

What can I say, other than…I will return!!
