G’day all,
It has been a long 4-5 weeks held up on the the Gold Coast. Since early November we hit the Gold Coast to help Mum & Dad finish some renovations on their house which they started some five years ago…Dad seems to take on projects that don’t get finished. To cut a long story short, Mum had just undertaken some Chemo and we wanted to make sure she was comfortable whilst she dragged herself through the next 12 months.
We also had some mishaps including side swiping the caravan, blowing a rear main engine seal and waiting around for late delivery of our boat.
So…on the road again today. We travelled from the Gold Coast through Ipswich, onto Toowoomba and finally to Lake Broadwater, just outside Dalby. We are heading West and inland hopefully to see some of the effects of the recent deluges across QLD and NSW. What we have noticed so far is how green everything is out here so far, which would be a stark contrast to normal I would think.
Nearing Dalby and just beyond we have started to see water on the side of the road…so who knows what is around the corner. We are planning on following the Darling River system and surrounding creeks on our way through to Broken Hill and then onto Port Augusta eventually…lets hope we see some water and beautiful scenery.
Arriving at Lake Broadwater, 30 klms West of Dalby we were presented with an amazing Lake made more beautiful by the lush green vegetation. We were looking forward to getting the boat on the water, to get some blue crab and take the kids for a scurf. On arrival access to the Lake was closed to powered boats…the Lake was too shallow. What a surprise, with all the recent water we thought that the lake would have been high, not low…how about that!
The other thing about the Lake is the mozzies. They are big and agressive, attacking every part of exposed skin…pack repellant if you want to enjoy yourselves here.
Camping at Lake Broadwater costs $5 per night for adults and free for kids under 10. There are many walks and bike riding opportunities around the Lake as well as canoeing activities. Lake Broadwater is a pretty location and worth a couple of nights when passing through Dalby.
Back on the road tommorrow, heading towards St George.
