Bushman Bud had been dreaming of going skiing since 1992. I have never forgotten the New Zealand experience at the Remarkables and Corenet Peak and have been dying to get back and give it a go again. Finally things had aligned themselves.
This was our first family day of skiing. Lynda was finally convinced to give it a go. Despite a good forecast the weather was pretty ordinary. We had got all our equipment the day before and got up to the slopes just in time for our lesson at Smiggin Holes (slope at Perisher). Jess & Amy and Lynda had a lesson from 9-12pm whilst I got to try the slopes. I last went skiing in 1992 in New Zealand however it didn’t take me long to get going again. Lynda finished her lesson early and vowed never to go skiing again. Time for lunch!!!
The kids and I finally convinced her to have another go in the afternoon. We went on the learners slope until Jess convinced the family to try the chairlift. What a laugh!!! Jess and Amy stacked it twice in the first hundred metres and while I was waiting for Lynda to come down the first section she kept coming straight at me, was unable to stop and bowled me over. I thought, “thats it for Lynda and skiing”, but Lynda couldn’t stop laughing. On the rest of the way down I had to balance Jess & Amy, each hanging onto an arm and ski pole, whilst Lynda stumbled and wobbled the rest of the way down. Lynda got stuck in a fence on the way down after crashing into it. It was a hilarious 30 mins of what you shouldn’t do skiing. After that Amy andJess had a few more turns and really started to pick up skiing. By the end of the day both Amy & Jess had skied down the beginners slopes on their own. Awesome. Lynda on the otherhand was still cursing…she did secretly have a good day though.
